Savoury Chef Foods – Vancouver Catering Company bring several ideas for cooking, and places to eat in the greater Vancouver area.

The Ironworks Studios

Bar : The Ironworks offers a staffed bar during events.

Ironworks event space is probably the most unique venue in Vancouver, It is an amazing old building filled with so much history, character and charm. Certainly not your traditional location by any means for a wedding, Christmas party, or any other private event, but if you want somewhere that’s going to totally intrigue your friends and family, check this place out!

Now, it’s used for various events such as the Vancouver Jazz Fest, Art Exhibitions as well as for film and studio space. Original remains from the Ironworks are all over the place which gives the place a seriously rustic feel. Steel fixtures, vintage art, old tools, rusty old chains, rustic furniture, 16 foot ceilings, giant skylights, exposed original brick all over, even the front desk is a gigantic old piece of machinery….there is so much to look at in this place.

Alan Emmott Hall

Suitable for formal and informal banquet and social occasions. Included in the rental are round tables and banquet-style stacking chairs to accommodate the 150 building capacity. The facility does have kitchen with a family-size refrigerator and a family-size stove. You are welcome to provide your own Licensed Caterer for your event.

The Centre is located in a recently-renovated 1914 School Building on the former Burnaby South Secondary School site at 6650 Southoaks Crescent. The building, which received a heritage designation in 1992, will become a social hub for the community. The main hall (upper floor) will be will be available for social functions, such as weddings. It will also be used for activities such as marshal arts training, square dancing, meetings, and training sessions.

Pendulum Gallery

The Pendulum Gallery was created under the City of Vancouver’s amenity bonus program as a legacy to enhance the experience of living and working in the downtown core. Opened in 1986, the light infused seven story soaring glass-covered atrium hall is a dramatic setting for art exhibitions. The atrium also offers the Cafe Ami, a popular eating-place with a relaxed seating area.

Eating around peanut allergies
By Tara Lee

Look for peanuts in Taryn Wa’s pad Thai and you won’t find any. As for peanut butter cookies, she gives them a miss when it comes time to bake treats. Wa takes peanut allergies extra seriously because she has firsthand experience.

“I discovered I had a peanut allergy when I was 12 or 13,” says Wa, chef-owner of the catering company Savoury Chef. “Before that, I never liked or ate peanut butter. I started getting very itchy when I ate it, and the reaction kept getting continuously worse.”

For those, like Wa, who suffer from a peanut allergy, even contact with a trace amount can cause a reaction. The risk from exposure can be so severe that awareness is …………………………

Deep Cove Yacht Club

Officially, the Deep Cove Yacht Club began its existence on July 31, l936 as the Deep Cove Sport Association and later became the Deep Cove Yacht & Sports Club, known fondly to most as the Deep Cove Yacht Club. Unofficially, the club’s formation was in reality the natural outcome of many of the Cove’s residents love for the water, water sports and boating. The municipality of North Vancouver had kindly allowed the club to rent a piece of land on the foreshore of Panorama Park.

Club Members cleared the land and erected a modest building and for the next forty nine years maintained and improved, all by volunteer labour, the clubhouse, grounds and floating wharves. During World War II, the clubhouse was requisitioned as an elementary school and it also served as a meeting place for the local Red Cross and Air Raid Precaution organizations.

During its early years, the clubhouse was the focal point for most of the Cove’s social and recreational activities and present Cultural Centre. By the early 1980’s, the original clubhouse was suffering from extreme old age and was replaced by the present building, with financing undertake solely by club members. In the past 20 years, the club has upgraded the wharves by installing 3 new concrete floats, electricity, water, extra lighting, security and new fingers. The club also acquired the Outstation at Iron bay in Indian Arm. DCYC members continue to pitch in and donate whatever talents they have to help keep the club functioning smoothly.
