The Planning Process

Step 1: Set the Date

You may have said yes, (yay!) But it isn’t real until you’ve got a date to work toward. Summer weddings are still the most popular but any time of year is a good time to get hitched.

Step 2: Create a Budget

Wedding costs can spiral out of control and become a pain point for many couples. Avoid this pitfall by setting and sticking to a budget. This stage will involve doing some research around the average cost per head for food and alcohol, and exploring other costs like flowers, dress and music. Call around to different caterers and vendors. Make a list of every element you’d like to include at your wedding and the estimated cost of each.

Step 3: Book a Tasting

This is where the fun starts. Book a tasting with Savoury Chef and let us flex our culinary muscles to show you what we can do for your wedding.

Step 4: Book the Venue & Caterer

Consider the look or theme you envision and how a venue can support that. Is it going to be a grand affair, or something more intimate? Indoor or out? Many venues have preferred caterers they like to work with and vice versa. Since food is such an important part of your wedding, we believe in the importance of developing a unique relationship with each of our clients. Go with someone you trust.

Step 5: Book the Vendors

From photographers and florists, to the DJ and makeup artist, your Savoury Chef planner will gladly make introductions to those on our preferred list of Vancouver professionals to help bring your dream wedding to life.

Step 6: Write a Guestlist

Is cousin Billy going to make the cut? Refer back to your budget to help you decide whether you need to cull your initial list. Each additional body adds to your spend. But then again, you only get married once. (Right?!)

Send invitations eight weeks in advance. 12 if you’re having a destination wedding.

Step 7: Set the Menu

From one-bite canapes to mind blowing dessert displays, no two weddings are alike and your Savoury Chef event planner will help you decide what’s best for your bespoke event.

Step 8: Create a Timeline

This is the time to decide how your wedding will flow; when the speeches will occur, how the meal will roll out and who will sit where. You need a seating chart! Lean on us for help with creating the timeline for your day.

Step 9: Month Out Meeting

Meet with your Savoury Chef event planner to go over all the final details of your day. Revise headcount if needed.

Step 10: Rest

The day before your wedding - stop thinking about it. Get some exercise. Drink lots of water and eat some carbs. Avoid alcohol. Get a good night’s sleep. And feel free to call us. We’re happy to run through everything with you right up until the last moment.
