Eating around peanut allergies

Look for peanuts in Taryn Wa’s pad Thai and you won’t find any. As for peanut butter cookies, she gives them a miss when it comes time to bake treats. Wa takes peanut allergies extra seriously because she has firsthand experience.
“I discovered I had a peanut allergy when I was 12 or 13,” says Wa, chef-owner of the catering company Savoury Chef. “Before that, I never liked or ate peanut butter. I started getting very itchy when I ate it, and the reaction kept getting continuously worse.”
For those, like Wa, who suffer from a peanut allergy, even contact with a trace amount can cause a reaction. The risk from exposure can be so severe that awareness is …………………………

After recognizing her dreams and goals were related to the food industry, she has completed the Professional Culinary Program at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver. In 2005 she has competed and won the gold medal at the BC Chef’s Association Hot! Competition live, showing exceptional skills and aptitude. Taryn’s scholarship has allowed her to complete the Advanced Pastry and Bread Program at NWCAV.
Taryn was featured in the article “There Ain’t Nothing Like A Dame”.
Highlighting her scholarship that was awarded from internation Les Dames d’Escoffier. Mentioned in the article was her gold win at the B.C. Chef’s Association 2005 Hot Competition Live.
